Worried your preschooler is finding play and friendships harder than expected?
Some children hover near other children but do not quite know how to join in. Some become upset when play does not go their way, prefer adults, or find playground and social situations overwhelming.

Why parent coaching works
Young children learn best when their trusted adults around them know how to coach them in real-life moments. This program give caregivers practical tools they can use again and again - not just during a session, but in everyday life.

Why 4-6 years of age?
The preschool years are a powerful time to build the foundations for play, friendship, emotional regulation and confidence with other children.
For some children, these skills seem to develop naturally alongside their peers. They gradually learn how to join in, take turns, share ideas, manage changes in play and cope when things do not go their way.
For other children, these skills do not come as easily or automatically. They may want to play but not know how to join in, prefer adults, become upset when play changes, struggle with sharing or turn-taking, or feel overwhelmed in busy social situations.
These skills do not suddenly appear when a child starts kindy or Prep. They are built over time through repeated practice, everyday experiences and supportive adults who know how to gently coach children in the moment.
Building these foundations early matters. What friendship and social skills look like at 4–6 years of age is different to what they will look like in primary school, high school and adulthood — but the early building blocks are what children continue to build on as social expectations become more complex.
PEERS® for Preschoolers helps caregivers support these foundations early, so children have more opportunities to experience successful play, positive interactions and growing confidence before social challenges become more entrenched.
Could it be a fit for my child?
This program may be a good fit if your child is aged 4–6 years and is finding play, friendships or social situations harder than expected.
For example, your child may:
- want to play but not know how to join in
- hover near other children but not quite connect
- prefer adults
- struggle with turn-taking, sharing or flexible play
- become upset when play does not go their way
- find kindy, playgrounds, parties or playdates overwhelming
- need support building confidence before Prep
Your child does not need a diagnosis to participate.
Before enrolment, we will talk with you to help decide whether the program is likely to be a good fit for your child and family.
Does my child attend sessions?
No. PEERS® for Preschoolers is a parent/caregiver coaching program, so the sessions are attended by parents or caregivers, not children.
This is because young children learn social and play skills best when the adults around them know how to support them in everyday moments — at home, at kindy, at the park, during playdates, with siblings and out in the community.
Each week, caregivers learn practical strategies they can start using with their child straight away.
How are the 16 sessions paced?
Why 16 weeks?
Play, friendship and emotional regulation are lifelong, complex skills. They continue to develop across childhood, adolescence and adulthood. They do not suddenly appear when a child starts kindy or Prep, and they cannot be fully taught in a short number of therapy sessions or a brief program block.
The early years are the ideal time to build these foundations gently, practically and consistently, with adults who know how to coach children in everyday moments.
Just over one hour a week, from home
Sessions are delivered online, during the day, and kept to just over one hour per week. There is no travel, no rushing across town, and no need to bring your child to sessions.
Two short blocks of 8 sessions
The program is split into two 8-session blocks, with a break during the September school holidays. This gives families time to practise, notice what is working, and come back ready to build on the next skills.
Real change happens in everyday moments
The weekly session gives you the strategies. The progress happens between sessions — at home, at kindy, at the park, during playdates, with siblings and in the everyday moments where your child needs support most.
Shorter than many children’s sporting seasons!
The program gives families enough time to learn, practise and build confidence, while still being manageable for busy households.
Families often wish it kept going
By the end of the PEERS® programs, we often hear families say things like, “Already?!” because the program has become such a helpful and connected part of their week.
What's the cost?
PEERS® for Preschoolers is a 16-session program.
Each session costs $87.50, plus a shared $10 program support / non-face-to-face fee per session. This nominal additional fee helps cover a small amount of the time involved in reviewing your family’s individual information each week, preparing for sessions, and providing personalised feedback.
This brings each session to $97.50 for an all inclusive 1.25-hour online parent coaching session, including resources and individualised feedback.
A $50 enrolment fee is required to secure your place. This includes your program resources, a book for your child, and postage.
To make payment more manageable for families, we invoice the program in four blocks of $390.
We have worked hard to keep the cost as low as possible so the program is accessible for families both with and without government funding. Compared with the cost of weekly one-on-one therapy, this program offers excellent value, as families receive structured parent coaching, practical strategies, resources and support to use in everyday life.
A post-program report can also be requested at the end of the program. This is optional and billed separately.
If payment is difficult, please still get in touch. We are happy to talk through payment plan options where needed.
Do we need NDIS?
No. You do not need NDIS funding to participate in PEERS® for Preschoolers.
Our fees are fair, transparent and the same for everyone. We have priced the program as carefully as possible so it is accessible for as many families as possible, both with and without government funding.
Many families self-fund the program, and we will provide clear payment information before your place is confirmed.
Can I use NDIS?
Self-managed or plan-managed families may be able to use NDIS funding if the program aligns with their child’s goals and plan.
Before your place is confirmed, we can provide the commonly used NDIS support item codes for this program so you can check with your NDIS contact and confirm whether the program can be claimed under your child’s plan.
Can families outside Toowoomba attend?
Yes. PEERS® for Preschoolers is delivered online, so families from around the country can attend.
